The Centre made its contribution to the House of Commons Health Select committee inquiry on Physical Activity and Diet this week with a document created from a collaboration between 10 of the Centre’s primary investigators across both Universities including Centre Director Professor Janet Lord and Centre Deputy Director Professor Paul Greenhaff.

In collaboration with Dr Phil Atherton at the University of Nottingham, Dr Leigh Breen (University of Birmingham) will lead a study to investigate whether a novel nutrient compound, phosphatidic acid, can be used to overcome the impaired muscle-building response in old muscles.
In September, a Wellcome Trust PhD student (Mary O’Leary) will be joining Dr Simon Jones’ lab.
imon Jones and Ashleigh Evans are starting a collaborative drug discovery project with Retrogenix to identify the receptor for a key adipokine that they have shown mediates the production of catabolic proteases and pro-inflammatory cytokines in articular cartilage.
Dr Michael Grey will be hosting this workshop for the Centre on Thursday 26th June 2014 in Lecture Theatre 1 in the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences.
Centre-funded PhD student Nick Kitchen recently won the best poster at the ‘Vision Leads to Action’ conference at the University of Birmingham.
Two of the Centre’s Primary Investigators Dr Carolyn Greig and Dr Anna Phillips both have articles featuring in the Spring edition of ‘Innov-age magazine’
