On Tuesday, 6th June, the Centre for Musculoskeletal Ageing Research hosted an enlightening and informative Science & Wellness Afternoon at The Exchange in Birmingham. This event provided attendees with a unique opportunity to delve into the world of healthy ageing and muscle health, featuring a distinguished panel of experts in the field. The series of talks, accompanied by a panel discussion, covered a diverse range of captivating topics and cutting-edge research.
The event officially commenced with a warm welcome from Professor Janet Lord, setting the stage for an engaging and enlightening experience.
Professor Carolyn Greig took the stage to share her insights on “The Global Age Wave: Healthy Ageing in Low and Middle-Income Countries.” Her talk shed light on the challenges and opportunities surrounding healthy ageing in diverse socioeconomic contexts. With her extensive knowledge and expertise, Professor Greig talked about her research findings and valuable recommendations for promoting healthy ageing worldwide.
Following Professor Greig’s enlightening session, Professor Paul Greenhaff presented on “The Price of Inactivity: Understanding the Consequences of Not Moving.” His talk delved into the adverse effects of a sedentary lifestyle on overall health and well-being. Professor Greenhaff’s presentation emphasized the importance of physical activity and highlighted the detrimental consequences of a lack of movement.
The event continued with Dr Felicity Williams, who presented on “Stronger for Longer: The Benefits of Weight/Resistance Training in Older Adults.” Her talk emphasised the transformative power of weight and resistance training in promoting muscle health and overall longevity.
