The British Science Festival is coming to Birmingham from the 6th to the 11th September and many of our Centre colleagues will be getting involved with various different events including the below:
The Centre itself will be running an interactive session: ‘How Old Are You Really – Chronological versus Biological Age’. This will be held in the Dome room in the Bramall Music Building here at the University of Birmingham from 1-3pm on Saturday 6th September.
There will be an introduction by Centre Director Professor Janet Lord followed by the chance to participate in various workstations to discover how well your body is ageing.
Centre colleagues Dr Carolyn Greig, Dr Simon W Jones, Dr Raymond Reynolds, Dr Mark Jesky, Dr Andrew Filer and Dr Zaki Hassan-Smith will all be helping out by running the different stations.
Sport, Exercise & Rehabilitation Sciences will be hosting ‘Not enough exercise, too much stress: The curse of modern living’. This will run from 3.30-5pm on Sunday 7th September in Lecture Theatre 7 in the Arts Building at the University of Birmingham and will consist of an interactive expert panel discussion and live demonstrations to show the negative impact of stress and the positive impact of exercise.
Centre colleagues Professor Janice Thompson, Dr Anna Phillips, Dr Andy Philp, Dr Carolyn Greig, Dr Gareth Wallis, Dr Jet Veldhuijzen van Zanten, Professor Joan Duda, Dr Sarah Aldred and Dr Sam Lucas will all be participating.
Dr Simon Jones, Ashleigh Evans and Mark Pearson will be running a hands-on exhibition on “Osteoarthritis and Risk Factors” for the Young People’s Programme for the British Science Festival.
This will be held in the Great Hall in the Aston Webb building at the University of Birmingham on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Sept 8,9&10th). The exhibition will run from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm each day and is aimed at an audience of 13 to 19-year-olds.
